Stephen de Villiers was raised and educated in the cultural melting pot of Durban, South Africa. There he graduated from the University of KwaZulu-Natal, completing a double major in Media & Communications and Drama & Performance Studies. Prior to that, following an intense calling to realise his dream of directing for film and television, he completed a year of undergrad film studies at the Cape Town International Film School.

Following his graduation from University, he decided to broaden his cinematic, cultural and tertiary experience and moved to Australia. Soon after this move, he was offered a place in the directing course at the Australian Film Television and Radio School (AFTRS). He now spends his time between Australia and South Africa and calls both Durban and Adelaide home. He is currently writing his first feature whilst working as a freelance director on a number of projects across film, video and digital, specialising in innovative online branded content.

Stephen combines a love of story, a strong and highly detailed visual eye, a passion for working with actors and a proven story instinct, when approaching and realising the ambitious projects he associates himself with.
